Background
The British government is committed to universal access to the Internet. As part of the drive to meet this objective, the Prime Minister’s office is leading by example.
Over seven years, XM London and Number 10 Downing Street have worked closely in development of the site. The government has continued to use the web as a mission-critical element of its overall communications strategy.
The site was recently migrated from an older content management tool that was developed by XM London to the new CMS, NetDevPlus. NetDevPlus offers increased stability and scalability, allowing the Office to meet the growing demands for delivery of information online.
Key Requirements
- Software and website stability
- Software and website performance
- More functionality and ease of use from administration tools
- Quick migration from old to new site
Solution
A tool was developed to automate the migration process, ensuring content could be moved quickly and easily to the new system.
Once complete, the team was able to benefit from a more robust solution:
- The NetDevPlus system allowed the administration function and live-site environment to operate independently, unlike before
- A mail system, easily managed by the client, keeps subscribers updated via email
- Our tests showed NetDevPlus was able to display information over 15 times faster than the former site
- New functionality allows the editorial team to manage their high daily output of government news and information with greater efficiency
